Baseball drops Centennial opener to Muhlenberg, 11-5

COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – Muhlenberg scored five runs over the third and fourth innings to pull away from Ursinus by an 11-5 score in the Centennial Conference baseball opener for both teams.

The Mules (16-6, 1-0 Centennial), who were receiving votes in the latest ABCA poll, banged out 13 hits led by three hits each from freshman centerfielder Jimmy Cody and junior left fielder John Muha. Cody scored five runs in the game.

For Ursinus, junior catcher Kevin Wilson (Brunswick, Maine/Brunswick) was 3-for-4 with a run scored, while freshman designated hitter Vince Rondolone (Havertown, Pa./Haverford School) and sophomore left fielder Josh Schnell (Gilbertsville, Pa./Boyertown) each had two hits.

Junior right hander Jake Kohler (Maple Glen, Pa./Upper Dublin) took the loss for Ursinus, falling to 2-1. He struck out five and walked three in 5.1 innings on the mound.

Ursinus did lead 2-1 after two innings as the Bears plated two runs in the bottom of the second. Josh Schnell had an RBI single that scored senior third baseman Joel Ackerman (Murrysville, Pa./Franklin Regional), while senior shortstop Brandon Sullivan (Gilbertsville, Pa./Boyertown) had a RBI groundout that scored Rondolone.

Ursinus and Muhlenberg will finish their two-game series on Friday in Allentown. First pitch set for 3:30 p.m.
