Baseball splits pair of PSU-Abington

COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – The Ursinus College baseball team split a pair of games Saturday afternoon with PSU-Abington.

In the first game, the Nittany Lions scored six in the first en route to a 8-4 win , while Ursinus (6-7) returned the favor with a nine spot in the fourth inning of game two for a 16-5 Bears win over PSU-Abington (5-9).

In the opener, junior catcher Mike Kerns, junior designated hitter Bill Parave, junior second baseman Michael Corrigan and freshman left fielder Jesse Goldstein each had two hits, with Parave getting two RBI.

Ursinus was led by senior shortstop Brandon Sullivan (Gilbertsville, Pa./Boyertown), senior right fielder Garrett Smith (Syracuse, N.Y./West Genesse) and senior left fielder Vince Chiaro (Pitman, N.J./Pitman) each had a hit and run scored.

Senior pitcher Nate Schell took the loss, giving up five earned runs in the first inning. Junior pitcher Jake Kohler went five innings, striking out three and walking one.

In the night cap, Ursinus scored 14 runs between the fourth and five inning to take the win.

The Bears registered a total of 16 hits, with senior second baseman Lou Argentine (Garnet Valley, Pa./Garnet Valley) going 3-for-3 with a run scored and two RBI. Sullivan, sophomore designated hitter Josh Schnell (Gilbertsville, Pa./Boyertown), junior catcher Kevin Wilson (Brunswick, Maine/Brunswick) and freshman third baseman Vince Rondolone (Havertown, Pa./Haverford School) each had two RBI.

Sophomore pitcher Steve Berardi (Hartsville, Pa./Holy Ghost Prep) got the win, throwing five-hit ball in five innings of work.

Ursinus will begin a three-game road swing, starting Tuesday at Delaware Valley.
