Baseball splits Centennial opener with Gettysburg

GETTYSBURG, Pa. – Ursinus and Gettysburg split a Centennial Conference baseball doubleheader on Saturday afternoon at Kirchner Field.

In game one, Ursinus took a 3-1 decision over the Bullets, before falling 4-0 in game two.

In the first game, Ursinus (5-9, 1-1 Centennial) got on the board in the first inning as junior shortstop Brandon Sullivan (Gilbertsville, Pa./Boyertown) led off the inning with a double, then moved over to third on a sacrifice by junior second baseman Lou Argentine (Garnet Valley, Pa./Garnet Valley). Senior third baseman Rob Vogt (Basking Ridge, N.J./The Hill School) drove Sullivan in on a sacrifice fly.

After Gettysburg tied the score in the bottom of the inning, Sullivan drove in senior left fielder Danny Ludwig (Boonton Township, N.J./Mountain Lakes) and sophomore catcher Kevin Wilson (Brunswick, Maine/Brunswick) on a double to center field.

From there, junior LHP Steve Christakos (Rockville, Md./Walter Johnson) took over as he scattered three hits over seven innings to improve to 3-2. He struck out four and walked two while allowing just the one run.

Wilson and junior first baseman Rich Guthridge (Schwenksville, Pa./Spring-Ford) each had a hit, while junior centerfielder Ben Gresh (Pottstown, Pa./Pottsgrove) banged out two hits.

In game two, Ursinus was limited to just one hit as Vogt hit a single in the fourth inning with just one out.

Sophomore LHP A.J. Wright (Holland, Pa./Council Rock South) took the loss, falling to 1-2. He allowed seven hits in a complete game, striking out six and walking two.

Ursinus will be at Muhlenberg on Tuesday.
