Baseball sweeps PSU-Abington

ABINGTON, Pa. – The Ursinus College baseball team swept a non-conference doubleheader from Penn State-Abington on Saturday by scores of 4-2 and 3-2 to improve to 4-8 on the season.

In the first game, Ursinus scored one run in the fourth and two in the fifth, breaking open a 1-1 tie.

Junior centerfielder Ben Gresh (Pottstown, Pa./Pottsgrove) was 3-for-4 with two runs scored and three RBI. Senior third baseman Rob Vogt (Baskin Ridge, N.J./The Hill School) and freshman designated hitter Josh Schnell (Gilbertsville, Pa./Boyertown) had two each hits in the win.

Junior pitcher Steve Christakos (Rockville, Md./Walter Johnson) went the distance in the seven inning game, striking out five and walking two. He scattered six hits.

In game two, Ursinus scored twice in the fourth inning to rally from a short 2-1 deficit. Gresh was 3-for-3 with a RBI, while senior left fielder Danny Ludwig (Boonton Township, N.J./Mountain Lakes), sophomore catcher Kevin Wilson (Brunswick, Maine/Brunswick) and junior right fielder Garrett Smith (Syracuse, N.Y./W. Genesse) each had a run scored.

Sophomore pitcher A.J. Wright (Holland, Pa./Council Rock South) got the win, as he went the full way. He allowed one earned run and struck out two.

Ursinus hosts Lebanon Valley on Wednesday.
