Baseball drops slugfest to Misericordia, 19-14

FORT PIERCE, Fla. – Ursinus dropped a slugfest to Misericordia on Tuesday afternoon, as the Bears (1-5) lost a 19-14 game to Misericordia (5-2).

The Bears had 15 hits on the day and had a 10-8 lead after four innings, but, the Cougars scored seven runs over the next two innings to take a 15-10 lead. Ursinus attempted to rally in the bottom of the eighth, but, only got to within 16-14. Misericordia scored three runs in the ninth to go up 19-14.

Eight different Bears had hits, including six with multiple hits. Junior centerfielder Ben Gresh (Pottstown, Pa./Pottsgrove) and junior first baseman Rich Guthridge (Schwenksville, Pa./Spring-Ford) each had three hits, with Guthridge picking up four RBI.

Senior right fielder Danny Ludwig (Boonton Township, N.J./Mountain Lakes) was 2-for-5 with a team-high five RBI. Senior third baseman Rob Vogt (Baskin Ridge, N.J./Hill School) and junior designated hitter Joel Ackerman (Murrysville, Pa./Franklin Regional) each had two hits.  

Sophomore pitcher Allen Weaver (Lemoyne, Pa./Trinity) took the loss, as he gave up five runs (four earned) in relief of starter sophomore Ryan Furlong (Douglaston, N.Y./Xavier). Furlong pitched 2.1 innings, giving up eight runs (seven earned).

Ursinus has a day off, before taking on Elizabethtown on Thursday.
