Baseball falls to Albright, 6-2, in season finale

COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – The Ursinus College baseball team closed the 2010 season with a 6-2 loss to Albright on Wednesday afternoon.

The Lions (9-24) scored five runs in the fifth inning to take a 6-0 lead and never looked back. Ursinus (16-19-1) would score two runs in the ninth.

The Lions took a 1-0 lead in the third as designated hitter Justin Danser scored on a RBI single by first baseman Tommy Canuso.

The five spot in the fifth gave the Lions a 6-0 lead as second baseman Casey Lawrence scored on a wild pitch, followed by a two-run double by right fielder Jon Raymond. Raymond would score on a sacrifice fly by third baseman Shawn Walbert.

In the ninth, Ursinus sophomore center fielder Ben Gresh (Pottsgrove, Pa./Pottstown) scored on a wild pitch, while sophomore designated hitter Joel Ackerman (Murrysville, Pa./Franklin Regional) scored on a RBI double by freshman catcher Kevin Wilson ()

For Ursinus, junior third baseman Rob Vogt (Basking Ridge, N.J./Seton Hall Prep) and sophomore shortstop Brandon Sullivan (Gilbertsville, Pa./Boyertown) each had two hits.

On the hill, freshman pitcher Ryan Furlong (Douglaston, N.Y./Xavier) took the loss, going 4.1 innings and walking three.
