Baseball falls to DeSales, 8-4

CENTER VALLEY, Pa. – After fighting back to take a 4-3 lead in the fourth, Ursinus saw DeSales score three times in the fifth inning and then add two more in the seventh as the Bulldogs (20-12) defeated Ursinus (14-17-1) 8-4 Wednesday afternoon in non-conference baseball action.

Ursinus took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first as senior left fielder Tommy Clarke (Whitehouse Station, N.J./Hunterdon) singled home senior right fielder Bret Umstead (Green Lane, Pa./Upper Perkiomen).

After DeSales took a 3-1 lead in the second, Ursinus fought back with one in the third as junior right fielder Danny Ludwig (Boonton, N.J./Mountain Lakes) scored on a RBI single sophomore center fielder Ben Gresh (Pottstown, Pa./Pottsgrove).

Ursinus scored two in the fourth as senior catcher Chris Fusco (Reading, Pa./Exeter Township) and sophomore second baseman Lou Argentine (Garnet Valley, Pa./Garnet Valley) scored on a two-run single by sophomore shortstop Brandon Sullivan (Gilbertsville, Pa./Boyertown).

Fusco and Argentine finished with two hits each, while Sullivan had two RBI.

Sophomore pitcher Sean Grimes (Villanova, Pa./Radnor) took the loss falling to 3-2. He struck out two and walked one in three innings of relief work.

Ursinus travels to PSU-Berks Thursday.
