COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – The Ursinus College baseball team collected 40 hits and 37 runs over two games on Saturday, as they swept Penn State-Abington in a non-conference baseball doubleheader.

In game one, the Bears scored in every inning but one in a 21-2 win in seven innings, while the Bears (7-5) defeated the Nittany Lions (1-8) 16-12 in nine innings in game two.

In game one, the Bears had 18 hits, nine for extra bases. Junior third baseman Rob Vogt (Basking Ridge, N.J./Seton Hall Prep) was 4-for-4 with three runs scored and three doubles. He also had four RBI. Senior designated hitter Mike Schwager (Bechtelsville, Pa./Boyertown) was 2-for-3 with two runs scored and three RBI.

Senior left fielder Tommy Clarke (Whitehouse Station, N.J./Hunterdon), freshman catcher Kevin Wilson (Brunswick, Maine/Brunswick) and sophomore second baseman Lou Argentine (Garnet Valley, Pa./Garnet Valley) each had two hits.

Sophomore center fielder Ben Gresh (Pottstown, Pa./Pottsgrove) also added in a home run.

Senior pitcher Corey Weaver (West Grove, Pa./Avon Grove) got the win, improving to 1-1. He struck out three and scattered four hits. In relief, sophomore Sean Grimes (Villanova, Pa./Radnor) pitched three innings, allowing three hits.

In game two, Ursinus scored eight times in the first and twice in the second for a 10-1 lead. The Nittany Lions rallied for seven in the top of the third to cut it to 10-8, but, could not get any closer than 10-9.

The Nittany Lions did have the bases loaded with two outs in the ninth, trailing 16-12, but lined out to end the game.

Clarke was 4-for-4 with four runs scored. Wilson finished 3-for-5 with a run scored and two RBI. Sophomore infielder Rich Guthridge (Schwenksville, Pa./Spring-Ford) was 3-for-4 with three runs scored and two RBI. Schwager finished with four RBI as well, as the Bears pounded out 22 hits.

Sophomore pitcher Steve Christakos (Rockville, Md./Walter Johnson) got the win, as he went two innings and allowed three hits.

Freshman pitcher A.J. Wright (Holland, Pa./Council Rock South) got the save, his first of the season.
