Marqus Hunter signed on with Ursinus as Associate Athletic Director in the summer of 2018. Hunter, who spent four years at Muhlenberg College in a variety of roles, returned to the Centennial Conference after almost three years in student-athlete enrichment services at Columbia University.

“I want to thank Laura Moliken and the rest of the search committee for believing in me, and giving me the opportunity to step into this new role,” Hunter said. “I look forward to working with all the student-athletes at Ursinus College to help each person develop the skills necessary to succeed after graduation. Additionally, I am excited to partner with staff to implement programming that promotes a positive, community-driven student-athlete experience for each individual."

Hunter started at Columbia in the fall of 2015, spending two years as student-athlete enrichment services coordinator before being promoted to assistant director of the program last summer. In those posts, he was part of the administrative team that provides career development and networking programming in addition to implementing life skills, student-athlete well-being, and academic support to over 800 student-athletes. He provided one-on-one career counseling to student-athletes to help them with resume and cover letter writing, interview preparation, and networking strategies; designed and implemented career-focused events and workshops; and spearheaded community service programming to build and maintain relationships within New York City and outside communities.

Hunter hired, trained, and paired peer tutors with student-athletes in need of academic support in addition to communicating updates on student-athletes’ progress and activity to a diverse set of stakeholders including coaches, faculty, senior athletic staff and career services. He provided grade review reports of all varsity student-athletes to Columbia varsity coaches and senior athletic administration and partnered with the Assistant Director of Compliance in coordinating the Columbia Student Athlete Advisory Committee.

Before moving to the Ivy League, Hunter undertook a wide array of responsibilities at Muhlenberg. In addition to four years as an assistant men’s basketball coach, Hunter served as coordinator for athletic diversity initiatives and multicultural life, for which he implemented programming for underrepresented populations to increase the recruitment and retention of a diverse student body and student-athlete contingent. He designed and facilitated more than 50 workshops and discussions while acting as coordinator of the StepUP! bystander intervention and leadership program for student-athletes, and also created the Muhlenberg Men of Color Alliance (MOCA) support group.

Hunter’s previous posts at Muhlenberg included stints as an athletic administration intern, multicultural program director, and assistant to the athletic director.

Hunter was a four-year member of the men’s basketball team at Misericordia University, graduating in 2009 with a degree in sport management. He spent the fall of 2010 as a graduate intern in the athletic department of his alma mater, ultimately earning a master’s in organizational management with a specialization in human resources.
