Hakan Atillasoy (men's lacrosse), Michael Prior (men's swimming), and Gianna Speranza (women's track and field) have been chosen as recipients of the Ehret Prize.
The Ehret Prize is awarded annually to a senior (or seniors) who have excelled in athletics.
Atillasoy is one of the most prolific players in Ursinus men's lacrosse history. Despite having only 13 games the last two seasons, he ascended to fourth all-time in goals (107), fifth in points (157), and eighth in assists (50) for his terrific career.
Atillasoy received honorable mention All-Centennial Conference honors after his sophomore season, when he piled up 55 goals and 80 points – both good for second in a single season – and helped lead the Bears to their first conference crown. He also established a new single-game standard with nine goals against Muhlenberg.
A standout in the classroom, Atillasoy was the CC Scholar-Athlete of the Year and a CoSIDA Academic All-District selection in 2020, when he was also named a fourth team Inside Lacrosse Media All-American.
Prior was an accomplished championship performer for the Bears, earning a pair of All-Centennial honorable mention laurels in his career and reaching the championship finals four times in six opportunities.
In addition to program records in the 200 back as well as 200 and 400 medley relay, Prior currently ranks second all-time in the 100 back and 200 IM and ninth in the 1000 free. All of these accomplishments, remarkably, came in just two seasons plus five meets.
Speranza is a six-time Centennial Conference medalist, including a two-time champion in the indoor 4x200-metre relay. A versatile competitor, she is also a two-time runner-up in the outdoor 4x100-meter relay, and is a 15-time place-winner at the conference championships.
Speranza was a 2021 Centennial Conference Academic Honor Roll recipient.
