Ursinus Athletics Set to Celebrate Division III Week

NCAA Division III Week

Ursinus College is joining with Division III members across the country in celebration of NCAA Division III Week, which begins today and runs through Sunday.

Division III Week is a positive opportunity for all individuals associated with Division III to observe and celebrate the impact of athletics and of student-athletes on the campus and surrounding community. During the week, every Division III school and conference office is encouraged to conduct a type of outreach activity that falls into one of three categories: academic accomplishment; athletic experience; or leadership/community service/campus involvement.

In conjunction with the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC), the athletic department will be hosting a variety of initiatives and programming intended to showcase what makes Division III unique. Ursinus' theme for Division III Week is resilience, and much of the activity will take place on Instagram at @ursinussaac.

Below is an overview of Division III Week programming:

UC SAAC D3 Week Resilience Challenge (Instagram)

Monday: Post your Power Pose

Wednesday: Post a place on campus that you go to find peace of mind

Friday/Saturday: Post your pre-practice/pre-game ritual

Community Service

The Bears are hosting a school supply drive this week. Donation boxes will be located in the Floy Lewis Bakes Center and inside the Fitness Center throughout the week for unused school supplies.

Movies

Student-athletes are encouraged to watch any movies that showcase resilience and discuss with friends and teammates. Suggestions include Coach Carter, The Pursuit of Happyness, and We Are Marshall.

Resilience Workshop

Rethinking Resiliency with Brian Yu, Licensed Clinical Sports Psychologist

Toughness is often seen as an unnegotiable requirement for student-athletes when it comes to experiencing adversity, whether in sports, school, or life. However, in truly challenging times, sometimes toughness just doesn't seem to be enough. This presentation aims to help student-athletes rethink how they might view toughness or resiliency, and will teach how to treat resiliency like a skill (rather than a trait) that can be developed with practice.
