Women's Swimming Performs Well at Villanova

VILLANOVA, Pa. – The Ursinus College women's swimming team fell to Division I Villanova on Saturday, 178-81, but put up a number of impressive performances despite seeing its incredible dual-meet winning streak snapped at 56.

Junior Peyten Lyons was the lone Bears swimmer to top the podium on the day, earning first place in the 100 back by finishing in 59.05. Lyons also earned a third-place finish as part of the group of Bears that raced in the 200 medley relay. Senior Olivia Tierney, junior Clara Baker and senior Sydney Gundersen joined Lyons, finishing in 1:49.83.

Tierney added another third-place finish in the 200 breast after finishing in 2:27.15 and added a second-place spot on the podium following the 100 breast, which she finished in 1:09.00. Baker collected a second third-place finish in the 100 fly (58.13).

Freshman Rebecca Warren and senior Meggie Leitz each left Villanova with a second-place finish. Warren earned hers in the 1000 freestyle (11:11.01), in which junior Kathryn Longenecker finished third (11:29.17). Leitz earned her second-place finish in the 200 fly (2:09.24).

Freshman Sophie May finished third in the 200 back (2:08.54).

The Bears are off until next Saturday when they travel to Franklin & Marshall. They're back in Collegeville on Feb. 3 to host Washington College.
