Bears Volleyball Makes Comeback Against McDaniel

WESTMINSTER, MD - The Ursinus College volleyball team (5-13, 3-5 CC) took on McDaniel in the first of two matchups Saturday afternoon. McDaniel started off red hot taking a 12-5 lead, but the Bears bounced back and closed the gap to 23-22 after an error on the Green Terror. 

Even with the rally comeback the Bears were unable to close out the first set, falling 25-23. The second set was a hard-fought contest that consisted of 14 ties! The Bears were able to close out the set 25-23. Caroline Sherman had three crucial kills in set two that evened the match score to 1-1.  

In set 3, the Bears led 5-4 before a kill from the Green Terror led to a 10 to 4 run and McDaniel lead 14-9. Ursinus would get kills from Katie Cressman and Haley Spotts, but it wasn't enough as McDaniel won set two 25-16.  

The Bears would answer back in the fourth set as they jumped out to a quick 5-0 lead after Caroline Sherman collected 3 of her team high 16 kills. After Ursinus led 12-4, McDaniel would answer back with five points of their own and cut the deficit to three. The Bears collected seven of the next 8 points and would take the fourth set 25-15.

In the 5th and final deciding set, the Bears rallied together and took their first win of the day with a 15-12 victory, winning the match 3 sets to 2. Caroline Sherman led the Bears offense with 16 kills, along with Claire Worley and Rachel Bernard who combined for 42 assists. Katie Cressman finished with a double-double totaling 15 kills and 12 digs.
