Volleyball Swept by Muhlenberg

ALLENTOWN, Pa. - The Ursinus College volleyball team fell 3-0 to Muhlenberg on Wednesday evening. The Bears got better as the match went on, but came up just short, 25-21 in the third set to fall in three.

The Mules jumped out to a quick 9-3 lead in the first set as they went on to take the opener, 25-13. The second set was much closer in the early goings with five ties in the first 12 points. Knotted up at six apiece, Muhlenberg took a trio of points to go up 9-6 and then pulled away with another 3-0 run to lead 14-8. The Bears climbed back within four, but the Mules took the final four points of the set to win the second, 25-17.

The Bears led early on in the third set. Isabelle Deal fired a kill to put the Bears up 7-5 and then with Olivia DeBonte on the backline, they took a 9-5 lead. A 5-2 run by the Mules tied the set at 14 before a string three straight points put them up 17-14. The Bears pulled back within two at 22-20 with a kill from Paige DeAlba, but Muhlenberg won three of the final four points to secure the match.

Kelly Piotrowicz led the Bears with six kills and 15 digs. She remains on pace to break 1,000 career digs by the end of the season as she needs just 37 more to hit the milestone.

The Bears return to action next Saturday at home for Senior Day when they host Johns Hopkins.
