Volleyball goes 2-1 at PSU-Abington Quad

ABINGTON, Pa. – The Ursinus College volleyball team came out a quad match at PSU-Abington with a 2-1 record on Saturday afternoon.

The Bears earned 3-1 wins over both Alvernia and PSU-Abington, before dropping a 3-0 loss to Susquehanna to move their record to 9-17 on the year. 

Against Alvernia, the Bears won by set scores of 25-18, 19-25, 28-26 and 25-23.

For the Bears, sophomore Karla Thiele had a team-high 13 kills, with senior Mara Berzins adding in eight. Junior Gina Powers had all 36 assists. 

Junior Leah Masiello had six service aces and 18 digs, while Thiele and Powers each had 13.

Berzins added in three blocks, with Powers getting two. 

Against PSU-Abington, the Bears won by scores of 25-18, 23-25, 25-22 and 25-22.

The Bears rode the wave of 17 blocks in the four-set match, with Berzins getting nine blocks and Powers adding in four. 

Berzins had seven kills, with Powers getting 19 assists. Sam Murphy had four service aces.

Against Susquehanna, the Bears lost by set scores of 25-10, 25-9 and 25-18. 

Berzins had six kills, with Powers getting 11 assists. Masiello had seven digs.

Ursinus hosts Swarthmore on Wednesday.
