Women's Tennis Sweeps on Senior Day

COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – The Ursinus College women's tennis team made Senior Day a resounding success with a 9-0 shutout over short-handed McDaniel on Saturday.

After honoring Robin Alsher and Christine Palazzolo before the match, Ursinus (11-5, 3-4) proceeded to drop just ten games total against a Green Terror squad with only five players. The Bears won two singles courts and one doubles court via forfeit.

Junior Ariel Danziger and sophomore Caitlyn Sorelle took care of Maddy Simmons and Winsome Schauer, 8-1, in their first action at number one doubles, their 15th victory of the season. Alsher and Palazzolo, playing number two for the first time, handled Leesa Malczewski and Lindsay Russell by the same score.

Junior Aileen Bevard defeated Simmons 6-4, 6-0 at the number one singles flight, and classmate Ashley Nguyen was a 6-1, 6-2 winner over Malczewski at number three.

Palazzolo put a bow on her Senior Day with a 6-0, 6-0 blanking of Russell at fourth singles, and Alsher nearly matched that feat before settling for a 6-0, 6-2 triumph opposite Brenna Gutshall at number five.

Alsher moved into a tie for 10th in school history with her 23rd singles win, while Palazzolo is one behind her. The pair now own 11 doubles victories this season, tied for the fifth-most in a single season.

The women's tennis team travels to Washington College for a CC match on Tuesday, April 18.
