Women's Tennis Flies Past Dutchmen

ANNVILLE, Pa. – The Ursinus College women's tennis team proved its adaptability and closed its non-conference slate in style with a 9-0 sweep at Lebanon Valley on Thursday.

The Bears (8-3) mostly cruised in a match where doubles was contested outside and singles was forced to move inside when the rains came.

Juniors Aileen Bevard and Ashley Nguyen coasted to an 8-1 victory at first doubles, with junior Ariel Danziger and freshman Caitlyn Sorelle polishing off an 8-0 shutout at number two a few minutes later. Seniors Robin Alsher and Christine Palazzolo completed the doubles sweep with an 8-4 result at number three.

The teams played pro sets in singles, and the Bears dropped no more than four games on any court. Sorelle was most dominant, an 8-1 winner at second singles.

Nguyen and Palazzolo each picked up 8-2 victories at third and sixth, respectively. Bevard claimed an 8-3 result on the first court, and Danziger prevailed 8-4 at the fourth flight.

In the process, Nguyen moved into a tie for 10th in program history in career victories (46). Danziger took over sole possession of second place with her 40th doubles win and pulled into a tie for third with her 33rd singles triumph. Palazzolo now has fifth place on the all-time wins charts to herself as she extended her number to 53.

The Bears return to Centennial Conference play with a critical match on Saturday, April 1. Ursinus welcomes Gettysburg to its home courts for a rematch of last year's 5-4 thriller, won by the Bullets.
