Women's Swimming Caps Another Unbeaten Season

BRYN MAWR, Pa. – Make it four consecutive Centennial Conference dual-meet championships for the Ursinus College women's swimming, who defeated Bryn Mawr 97-79 Saturday to wrap up their 31st consecutive conference win and close out another undefeated season.

Freshman Haley Sturla won two freestyle events for Ursinus (9-0, 7-0), capturing the 100 free and the 200 free. In the 100 free, her time of 57.49 was exactly a second faster than junior teammate Rachel Weil, and Sturla outdistanced junior Katherine Porter by just over a second with a mark of 2:01.28 in the 200 free.

Junior Sydney Gundersen, senior Marisa Ferrari, sophomore Gabriella Timuscuk, and junior Meggie Leitz cruised to a first-place finish in the 400 medley relay, the first event of the afternoon.

After Sturla's victory in the 200 free, Ferrari took second in the 50 free (27.20), where senior Catherine Wilson was third in 27.89.

Junior Olivia Tierney followed with a dominating victory in the 400 IM (4:49.01), as sophomore Katherine Madden came in second (4:56.25).

Gundersen then claimed top prize in the 100 fly (1:01.47) and Sturla did so in the 100 free. Senior Allison Emick won the 500 free (5:27.77), leading a 1-2-3 finish that also included sophomore Clara Baker (5:30.72) and senior Alexandra Hemp (5:43.99).

Sophomore Caroline Powell placed second in the 100 back (1:04.01).

Though the scores did not count, the Bears' 200 free relay teams went stroke for stroke in the last event of the afternoon. Madden, Wilson, Porter, and sophomore Kathryn Logenecker touched first in 1:48.26, followed closely by Leitz, Weil, Emick, and Sturla in 1:48.32.

The swimming teams head to Franklin & Marshall for the pre-championship invitational next Saturday, February 11, before taking on the rest of the league in the CC championships the following week.
