We Can, We Will, We Did!

LANCASTER, Pa. – The Ursinus College women's swimming team captured its first Centennial Conference title on Sunday, finishing off a three-day display of outstanding and personal best performances at the 2014 Centennial Conference Championships.  The Bears won with a total of 671.5 points.  

The Bears, trailing Gettysburg by 10.5 points heading into the final 400 yard free relay, won both the A and B finals to capture the championship.

During Sunday finals, senior Malena Lair Ferrari became the second woman in Centennial Conference history to win the 200 back four times, as she won the event with a time of 2:07.24. She was also named the most outstanding performer of the meet.

In the B final of the 400 relay, the team of senior Bryn O'Neill, freshman Marisa Ferrari, junior Amanda Lucock and freshman Alli Hemp finishing with a time of 3:36.73, about .50 seconds ahead of second place Gettysburg, which cut the deficit to 5.5 points.

In the A final, the team of sophomore Micaela Lyons, sophomore Corinne Capodanno, junior Chelsea Kozior and senior Malena Lair Ferrari set a conference, championship record and NCAA B cut time of 3:31.33. In that relay, Gettysburg finished sixth as Ursinus scored 40 points in the relay to take the win.

The Bears started the night with O'Neill taking sixth in the 1650 free with a time of 17:57.11 with senior Molly Serfass going ninth at 18:17.55.

Senior Kim Bullock was 12th with a time of 18:57.46 in the event, followed by senior Kaitlin Kirker in 14th at 19:02.15 and junior Margo Randelman 16th at 19:07.50.

In the 100 free, Capodanno was second at 52.96, followed by Lyons in fifth at 53.39 and Kozior in eighth at 53.59.

In the B finals, Hemp  was tenth at 53.97 and freshman Marisa Ferrari 15th at 54.95.

In the 200 breast, freshman Katie Pielmeier was fourth at 2:28.00, while senior Eva Russell, in the B finals, was 13th at 2:33.44.

Sophomore Kyleigh Hamilton was second in the 200 fly at 2:09.43 with junior Rebecca Schroll in seventh at 2:14.14. In the B finals, freshman Cat Wilson was 12th at 2:16.29.
