Showdown Sunday

LANCASTER, Pa. – For the second straight year, it will come down to the final day.

After day two, the Ursinus College women's swimming team is second at the 2014 Centennial Conference Swimming Championship with a total score of 456.5 points, just .5 points behind Gettysburg. The two schools battled for the championship last year, and this year will be more of the same as the meet concludes on Sunday.

Saturday night's finals were headlined by a pool, conference and championship record in 800 yard free relay with a time of 7:41.35. The time, also a NCAA B cut, was set by junior Chelsea Kozior, sophomore Corinne Capodanno, senior Bryn O'Neill, senior Malena Lair Ferrari. The foursome held the record from last season, and beat the old record by just under eight seconds, in winning the event.

Lair Ferrari captured the 200 free at 1:53.01, a NCAA B cut. Capodanno was second at 1:53.86, followed by Kozior in sixth at 1:56.19. In the B final, senior Molly Serfass was tenth at 1:58.12 with freshman Marisa Ferrari in 13th at 2:00.07 and junior Amanda Lucock in 16th at 2:01.41.

Starting off the night Lair Ferrari, freshman Katie Pielmeier, freshman Alli Hemp and sophomore Micaela Lyons were second in the 200 medley relay at 1:48.57. The team of O'Neill, Lucock, junior Rebecca Schroll and freshman Marisa Ferrari were 11th at 1:54.38.

Pielmeier was second in the 400 IM, with a NCAA B cut time of 4:35.74. O'Neill finished sixth at 4:41.89.

Hemp picked up a second place finish in the 100 fly at 58.35 while Schroll was seventh at 1:00.48. In the B final, sophomore Kyleigh Hamilton was ninth at 1:00.22 with freshman Cat Wilson 16th at 1:02.11.

 The 100 breast saw senior Eva Russell in 12th at 1:13.05.

Lair Ferrari won the 100 back with a NCAA B cut time of 57.84, with Lyons in tenth at 1:00.91.
