Women's Swimming downs Gettysburg, 135-127

COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – On Saturday, it was the Ursinus College women's swimming team's turn for a nailbiter of a meet, and the Bears didn't disappoint as by virtue of winning the 400 yard free relay by four seconds, the Bears (4-0, 2-0 Centennial) defeated Gettysburg for the first time in school history by a score of 135-127 at Elliott Pool.

The team of sophomore Micaela Lyons, junior Chelsea Kozior, freshman Alli Hemp and senior Malena Lair Ferrari finished with a time of 3:39.06 to earn 11 points, four seconds ahead of Gettysburg's "A" team for the win.

In a tightly contested meet, the Bears took both relays and seven first-place finishes on the afternoon.

Once again, sophomore Corinne Capodanno and Lair Ferrari were double winners. Capodanno won the 200 freestyle at 1:57.52 and the 100 free at 54.35, while Lair Ferrari won the 100 back at 59.48 and the 200 back at 2:11.42.

Sophomore Kyleigh Hamilton won the 200 fly at 2:18.42 while Lyons captured the 50 free at 25.28.

Freshman Katie Pielmeier won the 200 breast at 2:31.14.

The team of Lair Ferrari, Pielmeier, Capodanno and Lyons were first in the 400 medley relay at 4:04.66.

Second-place finishes were earned by Hemp in the 50 free at 25.50, Kozior in the 500 free at 5:25.79, Capodanno in the 100 fly at 59.98 and Pielmeier in the 400 IM at 4:49.16.

Kozior (1:59.36, 200 free; 55.69, 100 free), Pielmeier (1:10.25, 100 breast), freshman Cat Wilson (2:20.44, 200 fly), Hemp (1:02.20, 100 fly) all finished in third place.
