Kramer Wins Second Individual Title at Messiah

GRANTHAM, Pa. – Senior Alexander Kramer polished off his dominating run at Messiah's Petrofes Invitational with a pair of victories that netted him the 149-pound crown, highlighting the Ursinus College wrestling team's second day at the annual competition. The Bears placed seventh in a 14-team field with 72.0 points.

Senior Matan Peleg advanced to the heavyweight finals before forfeiting for medical reasons, while classmate Corey Markovitch placed sixth at 174.

Kramer, ranked 10th in the nation by the NWCA, reached the title bout with a 7-1 semifinal decision over Messiah's Stephen Maloney, who had pinned each of his three opponents on Friday. The victory lifted Kramer into the final for the third time in as many tournament appearances this season and pitted him against Mount Union's Kyle Ferguson, who had dropped just four points total in his first four matches. Kramer completed his sensational run with a 5-0 shutout for his second tournament championship of the year.

Peleg, who took each of his three Friday matches by fall, had to work to secure a 7-5 decision against Springfield's Joe Fusco in the semifinals and set up a top-10 showdown with Gettysburg's Paul Triandafilou, the nation's fourth-ranked grappler who earned All-American status as a freshman with a fifth-place showing at last year's Division III Championship. Peleg, ranked No. 7, did not get a chance to take on the Bullets star, as Triandafilou claimed the title due to a medical forfeit.

Markovitch began his day with a pin of Mount Union's Jared Staron, his second of the tournament, to guarantee a top-six finish. The senior then faced back-to-back Centennial Conference adversaries, coming out on the short end of an 8-6 decision opposite Gettysburg's Daniel Ebert before suffering a 6-5 defeat at the hands of Muhlenberg's Jake Gordon in the fifth-place tilt.

The wrestling team is back on the mat on Saturday, December 10, with dual matches against Penn College and Keystone at Penn College.
