Morgan Scores Four Goals in Conference Thriller with McDaniel

WESTMINISTER, MD. - The Ursinus College women's lacrosse team was locked into a hard-fought battle all afternoon, but six goals in the fourth period from the Green Terror proved to be the difference against Centennial Conference opponent McDaniel, 20-17 on Saturday.  

Senior Reilly Morgan captured a team-high of four goals on the day while Maeve Leonzi and Gabrielle Liott each scored three goals in the contest.  

McDaniel jumped on the board first at the 10:54 mark of the first period, but the Bears quickly responded with a 3-0 run after Andrea Hook, Julia McCann and Leonzi each found the back of the net. The Green Terror followed up with a 3-0 run as well and controlled a 4-3 lead with 1:04 to play in the first period. Ursinus tied the game at four a piece with just eight seconds remaining in the period after Liott scored her first of the contest.  

In the second period, each team traded three goals apiece over the first seven minutes before McDaniel closed out the first half on a 4-1 run to control an 11-8 lead at halftime. Rubin scored her first goal of the game at the 10:18 mark, while Morgan, Leonzi, and McCann each added their second goals of the game in the second period.  

Trailing 11-8 at halftime, the Bears again responded with an early goal in the third period after McCann found Rubin cutting to the net for her second of the game. After a McDaniel goal, Ursinus used a 4-0 run over the next five minutes to regain a 13-12 lead with 7:43 to play in the period. Liott and Lynch each traded two goals to get the Bears back into the game. McDaniel tied the game at 13 a piece with 5:07 to go in the period after Natalie Hoff found the back of the net. The Bears closed out the third period with a goal from Morgan to regain a 14-13 lead heading into the fourth.  

McDaniel opened the fourth period with a 3-0 run led by Kealey Allison who netted two goals over the first two minutes, regaining a 16-14 lead. Morgan was able to capitalize for her third goal of the day after Julie Cherneskie found her to cut the Bears deficit to just one. The Green Terror answered once again with a 4-2 run to close out the contest for a 20-17 victory. McDaniel held a 22-10 edge in ground balls and a 43-32 advantage in shots.  

Ursinus will return to action on Wednesday as they travel to Haverford for a 7pm start.
