Diehl's goal with 4.2 seconds left gives WLax, 16-15 win

ALLENTOWN, Pa. – Ursinus College senior attack Emily Diehl (Lebanon, N.J./Voorhees) scored a goal with 4.2 seconds left as the Bears (9-7, 5-4 Centennial) fended off Muhlenberg (5-8, 1-8 Centennial) 16-15 in women's lacrosse play on Saturday.

With the win, combined with Swarthmore's win over Haverford, the Bears clinched the fourth spot in the upcoming Centennial Conference playoffs, and will host the Garnet on Wednesday, April 25 at Patterson Field.

Muhlenberg did not make it easy as the Mules scored six straight goals to rally from a six-goal deficit with ten minutes left in the game to make the score all even at 12.

Ursinus then got back-to-back goals from sophomore midfielder Nicole Kovacs (Sewell, N.J./Washington Township) at 5:16 and one from Diehl on a Kovacs assists with 3:30 left to give the Bears a 14-12 lead.

Muhlenberg then scored two goals, the last coming from Alexandra Gabriele with 49 seconds left to tie the score at 15-all.

After Muhlenberg turned it over, Ursinus got a successful clear. Diehl then scored her goal, on an assist by Kovacs.

Senior midfielder Alyssa Thren (Barto, Pa./Upper Perkiomen) had five goals, while Diehl finished with four and an assist. Kovacs had two goals and three assists, while senior attack Kim Peifer (Collegeville, Pa./Methacton) had two goals and an assist.

Thren finished with seven draw controls, while sophomore midfielder Caroline Cannon (Garrison, N.Y./James I. O'Neill) had five ground balls.

Sophomore goalkeeper Riley Pembroke (Great Falls, Va./Langley) had 15 saves in the win.
