BETHLEHEM, Pa. - The Ursinus College men's cross country team added another chapter to its sensational campaign with a fourth-place effort at the historic Paul Short Run on Friday.
Each of the Bears' first five finishers placed within the top-51 in the 47th edition of the meet hosted by Lehigh University. The team's 142 total places were just two behind third-place Lebanon Valley, with Washington and Lee (104) narrowly edging Catholic (105) for the team title at the College White Race.
Giles Daly, a few weeks removed from an individual title at the Dutchmen Invitational, paced the Bears by taking sixth overall in a field of over 200 runners. His time of 26:12.8 timed out to an average of 5:16.5 per mile and was a mere .6 seconds off his pace at the Dutchmen Invitational.
Marcos Maciel was across the line in 12th overall, posting a time of 26:25.2. Christian Rosado was also under 27 minutes, placing 28th with a mark of 26:55.2 that eclipsed his first 8K performance by more than 90 seconds.
Paul Faggioli finished 45th in a time of 27:23.1, and Jesse Wun landed one spot outside the top-50 with a 27:27.5, good for a PR by more than 20 seconds.
Henry Wilt and Andy Shute crossed the line in an identical time of 28:12.7, a collegiate best by almost a minute for the former. Tucker McGrath's 28:25.8 was a PR by more than 30 seconds, and Brandon Slaboda narrowly edged his previous best with a 28:28.5.
The Bears will compete at the Inter-Regional Border Battle, hosted by Rowan University, on October 16 in their final tune-up for the Centennial Conference championship meet.
