NEWVILLE, Pa. – The Ursinus College men's cross country team put a bow on a terrific season with a historic performance at the NCAA Mideast Regional Championship on Saturday, braving the cold to set a new program record by finishing 22nd overall.
The Bears, who found themselves well inside the top half of a field consisting of 51 complete squads, surpassed the previous team mark of 24th place at the 2011 regional with the last of a series of impressive efforts during the 2017 campaign. Ursinus finished ahead of Centennial Conference rivals Franklin & Marshall and Gettysburg thanks to a top four that all crossed the line among the lead half of 365 competitors at Big Spring High School.
Sophomore James McDaid carried the Bears' banner with a 26:54.8 that left him in 78th place overall. Senior Joseph Iuliucci capped his collegiate career by placing 104th in 27:13.8, and freshman Dylan Geissinger-Tuttle capped a sensational rookie campaign by landing in 110th (27:18.2). Geissinger-Tuttle was third among conference freshmen, trailing only a pair of runners from Johns Hopkins.
Sophomore John Haase was the fourth Ursinus runner to complete the 8k course, doing so in 27:55.9 to place 151st. Freshman Kyle Berardi rounded out the Bears' scoring with a 176th-place showing after clocking in at 28:11.6
Sophomore Logan Mazullo (196th) wound up just inside the top-200 with a mark of 28:29.7, and junior Andrew Voyack was just outside it at 203rd following a 28:35.3.
