Three Birds, One Stone

In their second meet of the season, the Ursinus College Men's swim team scored their first win of the season, and then their second and third for good measure. Along with the Bears, the quad meet featured York College of Pennsylvania, St. Vincent's College, and St. Mary's College of Maryland.

The Bears started strong with a second place finish in the 400 medley relay. The team of Will Benn, Devin Nielsen, Chris Hoops, and Colin McNamara swam to a time of 3:41.14 in the effort. The team of James  Marrone, Reid Luksic, Alec Heckman, and Nick DiPalo would go on to finish fifth.

Marcus Wagner continued to impress in the 1000 free, winning the event in 10:10.30. His teammate Kevin Gill would finish third in 10:29.04.

Chris Barthold posted a strong showing the 200 free with a fourth place finish in 1:50.61. Dylan Cooper would finish one spot behind him.

Travis Venables finished second in the 50 Free in 22.50, with Colin McNamara behind him in fifth. Alec Heckman also scored in the event.

James Callaghan added a third place finish in the 200 IM, with freshman teammate Devin Nielsen close behind in fifth. In a display of great depth Chris Hoops, Alec Heckman, and Johnny Myers finished third, fourth and fifth in the 200 fly.

The Bears came on strong in the back half of the meet. Will Benn won the 200 back in 2:00.27. Senior captain James Marrone finished third in 2:05.57. Henry Nonack scored with a fifth place finish in the event.

Marcus Wagner followed that with a win in the 500 free. Chris Barthold had enough for third in the event.

Max Coulter finished fourth in the 200 breaststroke to seal the meet.

In the final event, the relay of Wagner, Cooper, McNamara, and Venables finished third with a time of 3:17.53.

The Bears finished on top of St. Vincent's 115-89, St. Mary's 118-86, and York 122-82.

Ursinus is back in the pool on Saturday, November 14th in a dual meet at McDaniel College.
