Men's Soccer Earns Four All-Centennial Honors

LANCASTER, Pa. - The Ursinus Bears men's soccer team saw three student-athletes be named to the Men's Soccer All-Centennial Conference, announced by the conference Wednesday. 

Junior Marco Grenda headlined the honorees by earning first team honors. Sophomore defensemen Nick Balbierer garnered second team honors and teammate Aidan O'Malley was named to the Honorable Mention team.  

Grenda had a breakout junior campaign in 2021 for the Bears. He tied for first in the Centennial with 12 goals and tied for seventh with four assists. Grenda scored multiple goals four times this season, including both goals while defeating No.24 Washington College 2-1. He scored in both victories over No. 5 Johns Hopkins and against Muhlenberg before missing the last three games of the season with an injury. 

Balbierer anchored the backline for the Bears helping them shut down and defeat two nationally ranked teams this including a shutout over Johns Hopkins. He also recorded his first career goal in the Bears victory over Albright 5-3. Balbierer was instrumental for the Bears defense this season as they collected 10 wins this season which were the most in a single season for the Bears since the 1995 season.  

O'Malley earned his first career All-Centennial nod after a strong season controlling the midfield for the Bears. Aidan started 15 games this season recording six goals and two assists. He scored two goals in a 3-0 win over Dickinson earlier this season and added three game-winning goals to his resume including one in the Bears 2-1 win over Penn St.-Berks.    

Kevin Devlin earned a nod on the All-Sportsmanship Team for the Bears. Devlin a senior started 15 games and recorded two goals and two assists at the midfield psoition. He recorded two goals in the Bears 3-2 victory over McDaniel to end the season. 

For the first time since 2013, the Bears added another postseason award as Head Coach Keith Cappo was announced as the Coach of the Year for the Centennial Conference. Cappo led his team to a double-digit win season and picked up victories over two nationally ranked teams. For the first time since 1994 the Bears defeated No.5 ranked Johns Hopkins 1-0. Cappo's team also defeated the eventual Conference Champion as well when the Bears defeated Washington College 2-1 in the beginning of October.
