Men's Lax Trio Attains All-CC Status

2017 All-CC Men's Lacrosse

LANCASTER, Pa. – The Ursinus College men's lacrosse team placed three of its members on the All-Centennial Conference Team, announced Tuesday afternoon by the league office.

Senior defensive midfielder Matthew Cioeta and junior midfielder Gerard Brown were repeat selections to the first team, while sophomore attack Peter DeSimone earned his second consecutive second team nomination.

Cioeta and Brown are just the fourth and fifth players in program history to capture back-to-back first team laurels, while DeSimone joined Brian Neff '16 as the only Bears to receive all-conference recognition after each of their first two seasons.

Cioeta started all 14 games, racking up a team-high 42 ground balls in addition to seven caused turnovers, three goals, and four assists. A second team All-Mid-Atlantic Region choice by the Intercollegiate Men's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IMLCA) in 2016, Cioeta ended his career ranked fourth all-time in ground balls (157) and eighth in caused turnovers (43).

Brown consolidated his breakout sophomore season with another dynamic campaign in which he led the Bears and ranked second in the CC with 28 assists, moving him into second in school history with 82 for his career; Brown is 20 shy of the program record held by Anthony Tori '07. The meteoric midfielder, who had five games with at least three helpers, put in a career-best 17 goals to finish third on the team with 45 points. Brown, an honorable mention USILA All-American a year ago, will enter his senior season ranked fifth all-time with 124 points.

DeSimone, the CC Rookie of the Year last season, was fourth in the conference with 38 goals – just one off the school record – and tied for fifth with 47 points, topping the team in both categories. DeSimone had six hat tricks and scored at least two goals in all but two contests, tying the program record with six and adding a pair of assists in a victory over McDaniel. After his first two seasons, DeSimone already ranks inside the top 10 in school history with 90 career points.

Additionally, senior Conor Fitzgerald was named to the All-CC Sportsmanship Team. Fitzgerald scored two goals and added three assists in his final season.

The men's lacrosse team finished 9-5 overall and 4-4 in CC contests.
