Hughes Earns Second PSCBA Player of the Week Honor

PHILADELPHIA – After reaching the 1,000-career point plateau and setting a new single-game high in points, Ursinus men's basketball senior Ryan Hughes was named the Philadelphia Small College Basketball Association Player of the Week, announced on Wednesday.

This is the second time this season that Hughes has been named player of the week by the PSCBA.

Hughes became the 30th player in Ursinus Men's Basketball history to reach 1,000 points for his career on Wednesday, February 2nd against Haverford. Along with his accomplishment, Hughes paced the Bears offense by averaging 26.5 points per game and shooting 61.5 percent (16-of-26) from the field between a pair of games. Hughes posted 18 points against the Fords to open the week along with grabbing eight rebounds and tallying a career-high three blocks. He followed that with a career-high 35 points against Gettysburg on Saturday behind shooting a scorching 11-of-14 (78.6%) from the field and going 4-of-4 from three-point range.

A native of Middletown, Pennsylvania, Hughes has now overtaken Connor Delaney of Johns Hopkins for the current scoring lead in the Centennial Conference at 19.2 points per game and ranks third in the conference with 6.8 rebounds per game. Hughes ranks ninth in the conference for field goal percentage at 50.2 percent and recorded his fifth double-double of the season last night in the Bears 95-86 upset of No. 17 Swarthmore after having just three double-doubles prior to 2021-22.

The Bears return to action tomorrow, February 10th as they will travel to face take on Widener in their final non-conference game of the season at 7 p.m.
