West Chester upends Field Hockey, 3-1

COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – Ursinus, playing its second game in as many days, dropped a 3-1 decision to West Chester University in the 32nd annual Snell Cup game Sunday afternoon at Eleanor Frost Snell Field.

The Golden Rams (12-3) ranked second in Division II, fired off 37 shots and had a commanding 26-4 edge in corners. West Chester took a 1-0 lead 28:03 in as senior Brynn Adams scored on a tip off of a shot from senior midfielder Leah Angstadt. It was Adams who initially started the scoring opportunity, as she fed Angstadt the ball on a corner.

Just 50 seconds before half, Angstadt assisted on the second Golden Rams goal as junior back Carley Buckwalter fired one in off of a penalty corner.

West Chester took a 3-0 lead at 48:10 as junior midfielder Michelle Schrift fired a blast from the center of the circle.

Ursinus' lone goal came from senior forward Alyssa Thren (Barto, Pa./Upper Perkiomen) as she drove the ball down field, then punched it in off of a rebound of her own shot at 52:11.

Senior goalkeeper Jill Lukens (Furlong, Pa./C.B. East) had 12 saves as the Bears defense only allowed two goals off of the 26 corners. West Chester junior goalkeeper Kristin Arnold made three saves on the afternoon.

West Chester took a 15-14-3 lead in the Cup series and a 24-23-9 lead in the all-time series which dates back to the 1920s. Ursinus sets its sights on conference play Wednesday night, hosting Washington . The Bears have less than two weeks to go in the regular season.
