Football closes out a winner, 48-7 over Dickinson

COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – Ursinus pumped out 48 points and 526 yards of total offense as the Bears (6-4, 5-4 Centennial) defeated Dickinson (4-6, 4-5 Centennial) 48-7 on Saturday afternoon at Patterson Field.

Junior quarterback Chris Curran (Oceanview, N.J./Ocean City) set the school record for touchdown passes in season as he threw for 275 yards and two scores, to give himself 25 touchdown passes on the season.

Senior running back Teddy Conrad (Doylestown, Pa./Central Bucks West) rushed for 80 yards and two scores as the Bears finished with 230 yards rushing in the game.

Junior wide receiver Jerry Rahill (Chalfont, Pa./Archbishop Wood) caught five passes for 123 yards and two scores, while sophomore wide out Darius Jones (Lawnside, N.J./Haddon Heights) had 73 yards on three catches.

Defensively, senior defensive back Scott Gardus (Allentown, Pa./Salisbury) and senior running back Ben Abitz (Coventry, Conn./East Catholic) each had five stops, as did freshman defensive end Steve Ambs (Pottstown, Pa./Pottsgrove).

The Bears forced two turnovers, and turned one of them into a touchdown as senior defensive tackle Greg Fontaina (Millburn, N.J./Millburn) recovered a fumble 25 yards for a touchdown.

Dickinson was led by sophomore quarterback Cole Ahnell who had 42 yards rushing and threw for 82 yards and a score. Sophomore wide receiver Eric Ondo had four catches for 51 yards, while senior wide receiver Matt Wood caught a touchdown pass.
 
Defensively, junior linebacker Michael Miller had seven stops.

Ursinus opened up the scoring as Ellis ran from four yards out for a 7-0 Ursinus lead 1:26 into the game. The Bears got their second rushing touchdown of the game in the start of the second quarter as Conrad closed a three-play, 18-yard drive with a 1-yard run with 14:56 left in the half.

Fontaina would then score as he recovered an Ahnell fumble in the end zone for a 21-0 lead with 14:36 left in the second.

Freshman kicker Eric Boyer (Fort Washington, Pa./Upper Dublin) booted a 21-yard field goal at the end of an 11 play, 63-yard drive with 6:48 left in the half for a 24-0 lead.

Dickinson got on the board when Wood caught an 11-yard pass from Ahnell with 2:51 left in the second quarter cutting the Ursinus lead to 24-7.

Curran set the school record for touchdown passes in a season on a 24-yard throw to Rahill with 1:07 left in the half.

Rahill caught his second touchdown pass of the day with 6:29 left in the third quarter as he raced 79 yards up the home sideline for a 38-7 lead. Ursinus would go up 41-7 with 1:23 left in the third as Boyer booted a 32-yard field goal, his second of the game.

Conrad added his second scoring run of the game from three-yards out with 10:08 left in the game for a 48-7 lead.

With the win, the class of seniors from Ursinus joined the Class of 1915 as the only senior class to finish their four-year careers without posing a non-winning season.
