Baseball falls to Johns Hopkins

BALTIMORE, Md. – Ursinus dropped a Centennial Conference doubleheader to Johns Hopkins (18-8-1, 9-3-1 Centennial) on Saturday by scores of 5-1 and 10-4.

The Bears (15-12, 5-9  Centennial) led game one early, as sophomore designated hitter Austin Feuerman  (Columbia, Md./Atholton) had a homerun to right with two outs in the top of third for the lead.

In the sixth inning, Johns Hopkins tie the score on a RBI single by Craig Hoelzer then take the lead on a three-run home run by Mike Smith.

The Blue Jays tacked on one more run in the eighth on a RBI single by Conor Reynolds.

For Ursinus, sophomore left fielder Timo Muro (Ridgefield, Conn./Ridgefield) was 3-for-4 with a double, while Feuerman and junior first baseman Christopher Jablonski (Galloway, N.J./St. Augustine) had hits.

Junior pitcher Sean Pisik (Syracuse, N.Y./West Genesee) took the loss, but, struck out eight and walked one in 5.2 innings. Freshman Steve DiStefano (Hockessin, Del./Archmere Academy) pitched 2.1 innings, striking out one and allowing four hits.

In game two, Ursinus got on the board early as Jablonski singled to left scoring Muro. The Bears went up 3-0 in the third as Jablonski homered to left center scoring Muro.

Hopkins would respond in the bottom of the inning with a seven-spot, with Chris Casey hitting a three-run triple and Daniel Albert homering to right field.

In the sixth, junior shortstop Devyn Kerr (East Greenville, Pa./Upper Perkiomen) would ground out to second scoring sophomore second baseman Kieren Geyer (Redding, Conn./Joel Barlow), cutting the deficit to 7-4.

In the seventh, Hopkins would score three more, with a home run by Conor Reynolds starting the inning.

Junior pitcher Vince Piccioni (Haverford, Pa./The Haverford School) took the loss, pitching six innings. He struck out five and walked two.

Ursinus will take on Swarthmore on Tuesday.
