Baseball opens home slate with 11-4 win over PSU-Brandywine

COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – The Ursinus College baseball team finally opened its home schedule on Monday afternoon, dishing out 17 hits in an 11-4 win over PSU-Brandywine in non-conference action at Thomas Field.

The Bears took a 4-0 lead after three, then after the Lions (4-7) got to within one at 4-3 in the fifth, Ursinus plated three runs in the sixth and two more in the seventh and eighth to take the win.

Senior third baseman Vince Rondolone (Havertown, Pa./Haverford School) led the hit parade for the Bears by going 4-for-4 with three runs scored and two RBI. Sophomore outfielder Timo Muro (Ridgefield, Conn./Ridgefield) went 3-for-5 with two RBI, while junior first baseman Christopher Jablonski (Galloway, N.J./St. Augustine Prep) had three RBI, with freshman centerfielder Travis Kozak (Farmington, Conn./Avon Old Farms) going 3-for-4 with two runs scored.

Sophomore right hander Connor Moriarty (Mahwah, N.J./Don Bosco) got the win as he went five plus innings, allowing three runs (all unearned), while striking out two and walking three. He scattered five hits.

PSU-Brandywine was led by two hits each from Evan Cline and Chris Kennan. Brian Bosco took the loss, as he went six innings allowing six earned runs. He struck out four and walked two.

Ursinus got one in the first when sophomore catcher Alex Campbell (Moorestown, N.J./Moorestown) hit into a fielders choice that scored sophomore designated hitter Austin Feuerman (Columbia, Md./Atholton).

In the second, Rondolone singled home sophomore shortstop CJ Diana (Chester,N.J./Seton Hall Prep), while Rondolone would come home on a RBI double by Timo Muro.

In the third, Rondolone singled home Campbell for a 4-0 lead.

After PSU-Brandywine got three back in the fifth to cut it to 4-3, Ursinus got three in the sixth on a throwing error that scored Rondolone and a two-run single by Jablonski that scored Kozak and Muro.

In the seventh, Rondolone scored on a bases loaded walk by Jablonski and Kozak scored on a wild pitch.

In the eight, sophomore catcher Vincent Terry (Beesley's Point, N.J./Ocean City) scored on a RBI by Kozak and Diana scored on a fielders choice by Muro.

Ursinus is scheduled to begin a two-game series with Muhlenberg at home on Tuesday, weather permitting.
