Coach T hits 400 wins as baseball downs PSU-Berks

COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – While Ursinus defeated PSU-Berks 17-10 in non-conference baseball action on Tuesday afternoon, it's what happened away from the field and after the game that most people will remember.

While Ursinus was playing, Johns Hopkins defeated Washington College, which gave Ursinus the fourth and final playoff spot in the Centennial Conference tournament on Friday. The Bears will take on Johns Hopkins Friday at 3 p.m.

Also, head coach Brian Thomas earned his 400th career win at Ursinus in 20-plus years at the helm.

In the game itself, senior left Danny Ludwig (Boonton Township, N.J./Mountain Lakes), sophomore catcher Kevin Wilson (Brunswick, Maine/Brunswick), junior first baseman Rich Guthridge (Schwenksville, Pa./Spring-Ford) and junior second/third baseman Lou Argentine (Garnet Valley, Pa./Garnet Valley) each had three hits. Junior right fielder Garrett Smith (Syracuse, N.Y./West Genesse) had two hits in the win.

Ursinus scored in every inning in the win, including a four spot in the sixth and seventh inning.

For the Bears, sophomore pitcher Allen Weaver (Lemoyne, Pa./Trinity) got the win, improving to 2-1. He struck out two and walked one in three innings of work.

The Bears take on Albright Wednesday afternoon.
