COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – Needing every win, and help, to make the Centennial Conference tournament, the Ursinus College baseball took the conference spotlight on Wednesday with a 9-2 win over Swarthmore. The Bears, now 10-17 and 6-9 Centennial play, posted two runs in each of the middle innings (4-5-6) to take the win over the Garnet (17-12, 8-7 Centennial).

Gresh smacked two home runs, giving him five RBI on the day.

Ursinus, who also had 14 hits in the game, got a five-inning, four hit performance from freshman pitcher Steve Berardi (Hartsville, Pa./Holy Ghost) who improved to 1-1 on the year. He struck out three and walked one in relief of starter freshman Chris Ryder (Douglassville, Pa./Holy Name).

Ursinus took its first lead of the game in the fourth as a two-run single by Ludwig scored Guthridge and freshman designated hitter Josh Schnell (Gilbertsville, Pa./Boyertown). Gresh increased the lead to 4-1 with a two-run home run to left field in the fifth that scored Vogt.

In the sixth, Vogt plated a two-run double to center field that scored Sullivan and junior right fielder Garret Smith (Syracuse, N.Y./West Genesse). Gresh hit a three-run home run in the eighth that scored Smith and Vogt.
