Volleyball Swept by Franklin & Marshall

COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – The Ursinus College volleyball team (6-14, 0-6) was swept by first-place Franklin & Marshall (15-3, 6-0) on Saturday in Centennial Conference action. The Bears played a tight second set but were unable to take control late to force a potential fourth set.

The Diplomats came out firing out of the gates, taking a quick 13-5 lead. They kept it going to take the opener, 25-13.

However, the Bears responded in the second set, eventually taking an 11-9 lead after an ace by Grace Sullivan. Ursinus trailed just 18-16 before Franklin & Marshall went on a 7-0 run to close out the second set and take a 2-0 lead.

Like the second set, the third was close in the early goings. The Bears were down 10-8 before the Diplomats went on a 6-1 run to go up 16-9. A 5-1 run pulled Ursinus back within five, but F&M took the final three points to take the final set, 25-17.

Kelly Piotrowicz moved closer to 1,000 career digs. She tallied 10 on the afternoon to move 52 away with five matches remaining. Katie Cressman led the team in kills with nine.

The Bears are on the road on Tuesday when they play Muhlenberg.
