Volleyball Goes Down in Four Sets to Goucher

COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – The Ursinus College volleyball team came up short on homecoming, losing 3-1 to Goucher. The Bears took the opening set before going down in the ensuing three.

The first set started close with neither team able to pull away in the early goings. Finally, with the Bears leading 13-12, they went on a 7-2 run sparked by back-to-back aces from Grace Sullivan to go up 20-14. With the score 24-20, Paige DeAlba gave the Bears the early lead with her second kill of the set.

The Bears jumped out to an 18-14 lead in the second, but this time it was the Gophers who went on a late run. Goucher took 11 of the set's final 13 points to even the match at a set apiece. Once again, the third set was close throughout. However, tied at 18, the Gophers went on a 7-1 run to take the set 25-19. Goucher then won the fourth 25-18 to secure the match.  

Rachael Girard led the Bears with 10 kills and 11 digs for a double-double, her sixth of the season. Kelly Piotrowicz added eight kills and 23 digs of her own which ties her season-high.

The Bears continue Centennial Conference play on Tuesday when they host Swarthmore.
