Volleyball Topped By Muhlenberg

ALLENTOWN, Pa. – The Ursinus College volleyball team fell to Muhlenberg on Wednesday night, 3-0 (25-10, 25-19, 25-20).

The Bears (5-14, 0-6) fought tough in the final two sets after a rough opening frame of the Centennial Conference bout. Senior Allison Raff sparked a comeback effort early in the second frame, finishing a kill that would start the comeback from a 6-2 deficit early. A few Mules' errors later, Raff smacked another kill, pulling her squad to within one. The co-captain would try to will her team the rest of the way, adding two more kills in the set. She would finish the match with a team-high seven kills on a team-best .167 hitting percentage and added eight digs against Muhlenberg (19-3, 4-1).

Sophomore Miranda Foster and freshman Jayme Callum each recorded five kills in the match. Callum played well in her limited action, recording a .154 hitting percentage.

The Bears came out firing in the third set, jumping out to a 13-7 lead thanks to a pair of kills from Raff and freshman Paige DeAlba. The two sides would trade points until late in the set, when the Mules pulled to a 21-17 lead. The comeback effort fell short after Ursinus got to within 21-19. DeAlba got another kill in that span, finishing the match with three kills to go with seven assists and six digs.

Sophomore Kelly Piotrowicz came close to her first double-double of the season, chipping in nine assists and 10 digs.

Ursinus continues its roadtrip next Tuesday at Elizabethtown before returning home on October 20 to face Penn State-Abington.
