WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Ursinus College volleyball team concluded its two-day stay at the Catholic University Tournament with a pair of 3-1 losses to the host Cardinals and Wesley on Saturday.

The Bears fell to 2-4 on the season with the dual setbacks.

Catholic 3, Ursinus 1 (25-22, 25-10, 21-25, 25-14)

Despite conceding the first two sets, the second by a sizeable margin, Ursinus showed its mettle by taking the third from the homestanding Cardinals. Catholic ended the Bears' comeback aspirations with a 25-14 score in the fourth set.

Senior Taylor McCartney went for a team-high 12 kills in the Bears' first match of the afternoon, posting a .242 hitting percentage and adding two blocks to her stat line. Fellow co-captain Allison Raff chased own 15 digs and recorded seven kills on the attack. Junior Sydney Gonzalez equaled Raff with 15 digs. 

Freshman Paige DeAlba handed out a match-high 32 assists. 

Freshman Grace Sullivan and sophomore Lauren Novotny each tallied three aces for Ursinus, which served ten of them for the match. Sophomore Miranda Foster was third on the team with five kills and helped out at the net with a pair of blocks.

Catholic received a dominant performance from Maria Cristina Juelle in posting a .323 hitting percentage. Juelle went off for 21 kills to just two errors for a .594 mark, and Amy O'Connor garnered ten kills without an error in just 17 attacks.

Wesley 3, Ursinus 1 (25-22, 24-26, 25-19, 25-17)

Raff registered 14 kills and 17 digs for the Bears, who pulled out a 26-24 thriller in the second set to gain a split of the first two frames. The Wolves, however, mostly controlled play in the third and fourth sets to extend their winning streak to six.

McCartney and freshman Jayme Callum each supplied nine kills for Ursinus, while Foster had seven. McCartney also recorded six digs, and Foster led the Bears' blocking efforts with two.

DeAlba had another strong performance at setter, distributing 35 assists, and Sullivan totaled a season-high 13 digs.

Raff and Callum served two aces apiece, and Novotny matched Foster with two blocks.
