GWYNEDD VALLEY, Pa. – It was place winners and PR's galore as the Ursinus College women's track and field team continued its outdoor season at the Gwynedd Mercy Mid-Week Twilight meet on Wednesday night.
Senior Catherine Buczek ran a career-best 27.14 to finish second in the 200-meter dash, good for sixth on the Centennial Conference performance list.
Buczek also ran the second leg of the 4x100-meter relay, which finished second in a conference-leading mark of 51.44. Freshman Gianna Speranza led off the relay, while Buczek was succeeded by sophomore Kira Miller and freshman Rachel Coleman.
Sophomore Catherine Curran completed the 400-meter hurdles in a personal best time of 1:10.42 and took third.
Junior Morgan Cope notched an even 10 feet in the pole vault, finishing third overall with a personal best and jumping into the top five in the conference.
Junior Riley Engel finished third in the 1500 with a clocking of 5:08.75, only .17 seconds off her personal best set during the Ursinus Invitational.
Sophomore Alyson Manley was runner-up in the 5000 meters with a career-best 20:58.92.
Sophomore Sophia Simoes took fourth in the shot put at 34-8.25, and freshman Vikki Rueda-Juarez notched a new PR with a 33-00.50 that was good for seventh. Simoes' toss of 106-5 in the discus was a new career best and put her in sixth place overall, and Rueda-Juarez posted another PR with an 89-7; freshman Shelsea Deravil was in the middle at 97-4.
Freshman Kateryna Swan matched classmate Speranza with a 4-9.00 in the high jump, vaulting up to sixth in the CC in the process.
Senior Lily Talerman landed just off a PR with a 2:33.54 in the 800, enough for a sixth-place showing, and junior Audrey Simpson (2:37.75) was right behind in ninth.
Junior Caroline Buckley was fifth in the triple jump (33-1) and 12th in the long jump (14-10.75). Classmate Mikaela Bordonaro finished seventh in the javelin (102-3) and 10th in the hammer (93-2). Rueda-Juarez made it a third PR of the night with a heave of 97-8.
Coleman's 13.74 in the 100-meter dash placed her just outside the top-10 on the conference charts.
