COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – Three medals and a program record added up to a very strong start for the Ursinus College women's track and field team on the first day of the Centennial Conference indoor championships.

Two more place-winners, combined with the top-end success, helped the Bears end the first session in third place in the team standings. Ursinus has 29 points, trailing only Johns Hopkins (73) and Dickinson (38).

Junior Buckley, who was fifth in the triple jump a year ago, got the Bears off to a fast start with her first career indoor medal and second silver, joining her runner-up outdoor performance last spring. Her leap of 33-6.75 was enough to edge Hopkins' Veronica Montane (33-2.00) and Haverford's Jessica Lopez (33-1.00) for second place.

The 4x200-meter relay team of freshmen Michela Coleman, Gianna Speranza, and Rachel Coleman and junior Catherine Buczek captured silver with a mark of 1:49.58, less than a second off the pace set by Franklin & Marshall.

Senior Katherine Damato earned bronze in the pentathlon, compiling 2497 total points. She finished in the top three in all but one event, including a second-place effort in the high jump (4-6.00). Damato was third in the 60-meter hurdles (10.71), the long jump (15-4.00), and the shot put (26-11.75).

It was a fifth-place relay team that broke a school record, as junior Brittany Gasser, sophomore Catherine Curran, senior Jenna Kelly, and junior Riley Engle crossed the line in 12:42.79; the mark was more than eight seconds faster than the former benchmark set in 2012.

Junior Morgan Cope placed sixth in the pole vault at 9-5.75 to add three points to the Bears' ledger.

Speranza and sophomore Kira Miller qualified for Sunday's finals in the 60-meter dash and 60-meter hurdles, respectively. Speranza's 8.27 was good for sixth overall in the prelims and a personal best, while Miller also logged a PR and landed in sixth with a 9.80.

Sunday's action gets underway at 11:30 a.m. inside the Floy Lewis Bakes Center.
