Women's Tennis Triumphs Over Lebanon Valley, 6-3

ANNVILLE, Pa. – The Ursinus women's tennis team returned to action for the first time since their Florida spring break trip as they defeated Lebanon Valley 6-3 in non-conference action on Monday afternoon.

 

With the win, the Bears improved to 5-2 overall and recorded their third-straight win. Meanwhile, the Dutchmen fell to 3-4 overall.

 

The Bears gained the upper hand early as they led off by taking two of the three doubles matches to take a 2-1 lead. The No. 1 doubles duo of first-year Allie Armour and senior Maddie Russell dropped an a tough 8-7 (5-7 tiebreaker) decision to Nicole Honrade and Jacquelyn McBride but Ursinus earned victories from sophomores Caitlin Vinsonhaler and Avery Samer over Meredith Haas and Sarah Kramer at No 2 doubles by a score of 8-5 along with sophomore Claire Burke plus first-year Shannon Stewart defeating Eliana Shenk and Madison Poladian at the No. 3 spot, 8-3

 

Armour avenged her doubles defeat by besting McBride 6-3, 6-4 at No. 1 singles while Russell won a thrilling 7-6, 7-6 match over Honrade at No. 2 singles that involved tiebreakers in each game. Burke took down Haas 6-3, 6-0 at the No. 3 position and Vinsonhaler outlasted Poladian 6-3, 6-2 at No. 4 singles. The Dutchmen took wins at both No. 5 and No. 6 singles as Samer was defeated by Kramer 2-6, 4-6 and junior Ava Compagnoni fell 2-6, 2-6 to Shenk.

 

Ursinus returns to action on Saturday, March 26th as they will host Gettysburg in Centennial Conference play in their first home match of the season at Perkiomen Valley High School.
