Women's Tennis Rolls in Fall Debut

IMMACULATA, Pa. - The Ursinus College women's tennis team opened its fall campaign in style on Wednesday, dropping only seven total games in a 9-0 non-conference sweep at Immaculata.

The Bears conceded only four games in doubles and three in singles in claiming a season-opening win for the third consecutive season.

Playing together for the first time, Maddie Russell and Allie Armour fell into an early 2-1 hole before ripping off seven straight games to secure an 8-2 decision at No. 1 doubles. Avery Samer and Brenna Trkula posted an 8-0 blanking at No. 2, and Shannon Stewart teamed with Ava Compagnoni for an 8-2 win on the third court.

Stewart (No. 3), Compagnoni (No. 4), Samer (No. 5), and Leach (No. 6) all were perfect in their singles matches, not conceding a single game. Russell was an 8-1 winner at No. 2, and Armour registered a 6-2, 6-0 triumph on the top court.

The Bears continue their fall slate with a trip to York (Pa.) on Saturday.
