Women's Tennis Caps Season with Record-Filled Sweep of McDaniel

WESTMINSTER, Md. – The Ursinus College women's tennis team put a bow on a strong season with a number of historic accomplishment's in Saturday's 9-0 Centennial Conference sweep at McDaniel.

Senior captain BreAnna Bashaw stole the show with two more wins, giving her an even 100 for her standout career at Ursinus (11-7, 4-6), which lost only two total games to the Green Terror (2-13, 0-9). Bashaw became the first player in program history to reach the century mark, teaming with sophomore Ariel Danziger for an 8-0 sweep at second doubles before shutting out Angie Johnson 6-0, 6-0 at second singles to make history.

A couple other program benchmarks went down for the Bears. Sophomore Aileen Bevard rolled to a 6-1, 6-0 rout at third singles, giving her a school-record 17 singles wins for the season (17-3). Bevard and sophomore Ashley Nguyen were 8-1 winners at first doubles.

Additionally, Bashaw and Danziger's 8-0 shutout at second doubles gave them 17 wins on the year, matching senior Stephanie-Jane Seabra and junior Christine Palazzolo for the program record; those two already held the record after a win against Bryn Mawr on Wednesday, and stayed at 17 after McDaniel forfeited the third doubles court. Both doubles teams finished 17-5 for the season.

Nguyen produced a double bagel (6-0, 6-0) at first singles, while Danziger and Palazzolo each prevailed 8-0 at fourth and fifth singles, respectively. The Green Terror forfeited the sixth singles court.

The Bears capped the 2015-16 campaign with their first CC sweep of the season.
