Bears Swimming Sweep Dual Meet with Cabrini

COLLEGEVILLE, PA. - Ursinus College men's and women's swim teams dove into 2022 with a pair of dual-meet victories Friday evening. The women defeated Cabrini by a 107-78 score, while the men topped the opposing Cavaliers, 126-78. The Bears totaled 18 event victories, 9 from both teams.  

Ursinus controlled the momentum early, winning both 200-yard Medley Races, capturing 11 points towards the team's overall score. Katie Barlow won a pair of individual events for the Bears, touching the wall at 11:16.82 in the 1000-yard freestyle and 57.21 in the 100-yard freestyle.  

Jonah Kasznay led the men's team with two event victories as well capturing first in the 100 (49.79) and 1000 (9:59.67) yard freestyle events.  

Sophie Lear was next up for the Bears, collecting victories in the 50 (25.37) and 200(1:58.49) yard freestyle events. Ro Murphy finished second in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 2:08.04. Murphy also collected a first-place finish in the 500 free, touching the wall at 5:54.94.  

Sophomore Melissa Leonard and Freshman Molly Stevens finished first and second in the 200 IM with times of 2:15.81 and 2:23.27, respectively. It was a clean sweep for the Men in the 200 IM as Stephen Lyons, Matt Snyder, and Daniel Leach collected 16 points for the Bears. 

Abigail Ferguson collected a first-place finish in the 100-yard Butterfly with a personal best of 1:01.92. Ryan Carkhuff finished first in the 100-yard butterfly event and was a part of two relay team wins for the Bears. Liv Rachael and Charlotte Driver finished first and second in the 100-yard Backstroke. The Bears men's program finished first and second in the 100 backstroke thanks to Max Valeriano (56.51) and Dylan Schreffler (58.54). 

Junior Ryan Schreffler finished first in the 500 free with a time of 5:05.90. The Ursinus men closed out the dual meet with first and second place finishes in the 200-freestyle relay. The quartet of Carkhuff, Valeriano, Ryan and Dylan Schreffler finished with a time of 1:30.24.
