Women's Swimming Rolls Past McDaniel

COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – The Ursinus College women's swimming team put together another strong performance, winning every event that was scored as the Bears routed McDaniel, 130-43, in a Centennial Conference dual on Saturday.

The Bears took all of the first nine races on the day before going to exhibition scoring in the final two and extended their consecutive dual meet winning streak to 41.

To kick off the meet, the relay team of senior Peyten Lyons and freshmen Sophie Lear, Liv Rachael, and Stephanie Chell won the 200 medley relay by more than three seconds (1:52.11) over two other Bear relay teams and McDaniel's squad.

Lear turned in another quick time in Elliott Pool. The reigning Centennial Conference swimmer of the week registered a CC-best time of 1:07.69 in the 100 breast, which is good for 22nd in Division III.

Senior Clara Baker won both the 200 free (2:02.09) and 100 free (54.50).

Freshman Katie Schultz set a new pool record and posted a mark that ranks second in the conference with a 4:45.21 in the 400 IM, edging out the previous Elliott Pool standard of 4:45.35 by a Gettysburg swimmer in 2013. Seniors Catherine Powell (4:50.8) and Katherine Madden (4:58.41) turned in times good for third and fourth in the CC.

Lyons won the 100 butterfly in a time of 1:01.62. Sophomores Katie Kurzinsky and Sophie May took the 100 back (1:02.60) and 500 free (5:24.08), respectively.

In the 200 free relay to close out the meet, the sophomore duo of Kurzinsky and May teamed up with the senior tandem of Powell and Katherine Madden to win in a time of 1:43.5.

McDaniel's Blair Boyle earned the Green Terror's lone victory. Boyle was first in the 50 Free (25.41) and was awarded first-place points in the 100 IM (1:05.23), where Lear was first to finish in 1:01.84.

The Bears travel to Gettysburg next Saturday for a 1 p.m. dual meet.
