Women's Soccer takes 3-0 win over York (Pa.)

COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. –  In one of the hottest opening days in recent memory, the Ursinus College women's soccer team came out firing – scoring three goals on 19 shots – as the Bears (1-0) defeated  York (Pa.) 3-0 at Patterson Field on Tuesday night.

Ursinus held a 19-9 edge on shots, with junior midfielder Jeannie Jasinski (Hilltown, Pa./Pennridge) accounting for six shots alone. She had two goals and an assist on the night, with goals coming in the 27th and 63rd minutes.

Her first goal came at 26:56 in on a header off of a corner kick from senior defender Kelsey Shafer (Horsham, Pa./Hatboro-Horsham), while she assisted on the second goal of the game at 34:21. On a great pass back to freshman forward Mackenzie Groff (Allentown, Pa./Salisbury) in the center of the box, Groff fired home the shot to give the Bears a 2-0 lead.

Jasinski was on the receiving end of a pass from Groff at 62:23 to give the Bears a 3-0 lead.

Junior goalkeeper Courtney Sullivan (Maple Glen, Pa./Gwynedd-Mercy Academy) and sophomore Marisa Kalkstein (Owings Mills, Md./Franklin) combined on a shutout, with Sullivan going 70-plus minutes making two saves. Kalkstein went 19:46 with two saves.

Ursinus heads across the river to Rowan to play Shenandoah and Ithaca in the Profs Soccer Classic on Friday and Saturday.
