Adams Advances to Nationals, Seven Bears Place at Regionals

ELIZABETHTOWN, PA. - Terry Adams finished third at 125 pounds to lead Ursinus with seven place-winners for the wrestling team on the final day of competition at the NCAA Mideast Regional.

Adams will make the trip to Cedar Rapids, Iowa to represent Ursinus at the Division III Championships on March 11 and 12.

Gary Nagle (184) and Malcolm Hunt (285) each came within one win of an NCAA Championship berth but were unable to punch their ticket as the Bears continued a stellar season under head coach Joe Jamison.

Nagle and Hunt each finished with a fourth-place finish, as Shawn Marchesano (157) and Jason Carter (197) finished fifth. Dante Monaco (149) finished seventh and Romeo Rodriguez (133) earned an eighth-place finish.

"Incredible performance from our program this weekend," head coach Joe Jamison said. "We have made some incredible growth over the last few years and this weekend is proof of that. Scoring 29 points and finishing 14th in 2019 to 95 points and finishing fifth this year is remarkable."

Nagle opened with a first period fall over Oneonta's Steven Bilali and followed it up a 5-2 decision over RIT's Colby Giroux. In the consolation finals he fell to the four seed Brian Torres of Oswego State, 8-4.

Hunt notched a 13-7 decision in his opening match and earned a trip to the consolation finals after a 11-3 major decision over Muhlenberg's Ramiro Osuna. Carter collected two pins in the consolations and finished his senior season with an 18-7 record.

Marchesano opened day two with a second period pin and won the fifth-place match with a fall over McDaniel's Xavier Howard at the 4:07 mark.

As a team the Bears earned a fifth-place finish and is the highest Ursinus has finished since the 2015-16 season when they finished third.

Jamison went on to say, "What impresses me the most is the resilience we showed. After going 1-4 in the quarterfinals on Saturday, we went 6-0 in the blood round and five of our seven place winners outwrestled their seeds. The guys wrestled with a lot of heart and refused to quit. They have set the tone for the future and should be proud."
