NWCA Scholar All-America Awards

MANHEIM, Pa. – Ursinus College's Jason Carter was recently named a Scholar All-American by the National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA).

Nominees must have at least a 3.20 GPA for the previous full academic year. Wrestlers can also be considered if they placed in the top six at their respective regional tournament, recorded a win percentage of .500 or better, and competed in half of the institution's scheduled competition in NCAA championship events; they can also be considered with a win percentage of .670 or better and participation in half of the institution's scheduled NCAA events.

A Health & Exercise Physiology major with a 3.43 cumulative GPA, Carter enjoyed a highly successful debut campaign with the Bears after transferring in from Camden County College. The junior 197-pounder notched an overall record of 26-13, finishing second on the team in victories and winning five of his six Centennial Conference bouts. Carter posted five pins and six major decisions, ranking third on the squad with 104 team points.

Carter was runner-up at the CC championships and placed fourth at the NCAA Mideast Regional, falling one win shy of NCAA qualification. He also finished third at the Fall Brawl and fifth at the New Standard Invitational during the regular season, and received wrestler of the week honors from the CC on February 11.

"Jason is a leader on and off the mat, and represents the program with great pride," head coach Joe Jamison said. "He has earned every bit of this award as well as the respect of his teammates and coaches. Jason has made an incredible leap forward since coming to Ursinus, and with his work ethic there is a lot more to come. The coaching staff couldn't be more proud of him."
